WHOSE GRAVE IS IT?
A. Whose art is it anyway? Make a case, for or against, the a
unearthing of ancient gravesites to retrieve art for public and/or private
museums and research. More information from your textbook
on page 345. Write your comments in your notebook.

B. Choose TWO of the following questions and write one to two paragraphs for each of
     the answers in your notebook. This material was discussed in class and
     additional information is in your textbook. You may also do more research
     for your answers. (Cite all sources and/or websites)
  

1. What led to the development of Neolithic art? Discuss how these changes
    affect images that were created. Cite examples.

2. Citing examples, discuss how writing systems evolved.

3. Describe and discuss "Venus" figurines. Why did paleolithic people
    create "Venus" figures? Cite examples

4. Discuss the role of art history in history. How is it different? What is
    the role of art in pre-history? Cite examples.

5. Compare and contrast Nefertiti with Hatshepsut. Cite examples.
    You will find some of this information in your textbook in the Egyptian art
    section, if you missed class, you may need to do some research.

The Romans admired all things Greek (and other cultures, too)

Pick six works of art that the Romans would have chosen
to make copies of for their Roman Emperor’s Palaces.

Cite (Give name, artist and textbook figure number)
for the six examples and explain why the
Roman’s would want to copy each piece.

You may use any work of art
that would have existed
within the geographical confines of the expanded
Roman Empire up to the year 300CE
