CLASS PRESENTATION :
ART FROM YOUR OWN HOME
Presentation Date: End of the semester (date will be assigned)

Prepare a  3-minute presentation for the class on a work of art from your own or a friend’s home. In the event that you choose a work of art that is too large or heavy (such as a sculpture) to bring with you, you may use a powerpoint slide or photograph of the work. Do not bring a poster or postcard of a work of art from an artist we have studied in class; the object is to find something at home that we haven’t previously discussed. You may create your own work of art or you may create a documentary video on the artwork in vhs or powerpoint format to show the class. You must include at least a 3 page detailed, typed  paper, plus a bibliography of your talk to hand in to me before you give your presentation. You should have two copies if you will use this paper during your talk.  Presentations will be given the last classes of the semester. Papers without a bibliography including three sources correctly cited will have 10 points deducted. This paper has a maximum of 97 points.

Grading for the Presentation and Paper

*Points are included for how well you relate all of the ideas we have discussed in class during the semester to your presented work, your depth of research, creative organization of the presentation, appropriate length and the thoroughness of your paper. You grade will also be based on how well you demonstrate or show how the elements and principles of design are used in the artwork, purpose or theme and style or the style with which the art is closely related.

*Points are included for your explanation of the influences or other artists influences on your piece and artist you are presenting (show slides if possible or give examples in the book of artists whose work is similar). Present information about both the artist and/or the artist’s medium used in your work. If you check the art section of the North Central Texas College library and look on the internet for RELIABLE sites,  you will probably find good source materials to help make your presentation more significant in creating an appreciation for the art you are presenting. Bringing in books and additional images enhances your presentation and using actual books and magazines for research will help.

*Internet art or prints of art by an artist in the textbook are unacceptable as the focal point or subject for this project; however, you may include internet websites as part of your research.

*Points awarded for your typed outline or paper with required bibliography. List references used in the bibliographic format used for papers written in the humanities. This is an important part of your work and essential to your presentation.  A minimum of three references is required. Example:

Limb, Peter. "Relationships between Artists, Labor & African Nationalist/Liberation Movements in
                                      Southern Africa." [http://neal.ctstateu. edu/history/world_history/archives/limb-l.html]. May 1992.

Smith, Edward. Latin American Art of the 20th Century. London, England: Thames and Hudson, 1993. p. 30-102.

Webster, Sally. "Pattern and Decoration in the Public Eye." Art in America (February 1987): 118-124.

If you are absent or do not give your presentation on the assigned day, you will receive a zero for the assignment. No exceptions!
