*Museum Visit:Paper describing your museum/gallery/art center visit  due  Jun. 30
CHECK WITH THE MUSEUM   BY INTERNET OR PHONE BEFORE MAKING
A TRIP FOR DIRECTIONS, HOURS AND SPECIAL EXHIBITS/EVENTS.

Write a minimum of three full, double spaced pages
describing your visit to one or more of the following museums during this semester.
We will also discuss your museum experiences in class on the due date.

1. a. Include the date of your visit and the name of the museum at the top of your paper.
     b. To your paper, attach your entrance ticket or photo of you in front of the museum if you visit on a free day.
Failure to attach proof of attendance disqualifies your paper for credit.
     c. You must take a notebook with you to record important documentation in order to write an

          adequate  paper.

2.Include your reaction to at least two selected pieces of art and the building itself and what you think
was the most interesting part of your experience. (Write a paragraph for each: artwork 1, artwork 2,
and the museum). Do not copy information from the museum description - just write about how you
responded to what you saw - what drew you to the piece, what stood out to you and how you felt
about the museum's structure itself. Include specific documentation for each piece (copy the artist
name, date and title directly from the card next to the artwork).

3.In addition your reaction to the the 2 artworks and museum itself, compare and contrast two works of art,
each from a different culture, time period or medium. This means you will probably have to visit several
different areas of the museum. Think of it this way:
Imagine you are the museum curator and want to exhibit and compare two works with the same theme,
but from different time periods, mediums or cultures.  Include the name of the artwork(s), artists and the date of creation.
How are these alike? How are they different? What does each say about its particular culture, medium or time?
Example: compare a portrait (either sculpture or painting) from 19th Century Europe with a portrait sculpture from Africa.
Or compare a Chinese scroll painting of a landscape to a painted landscape from 20th Century America. Or compare
a Samurai mask from Japan to a ritual mask from India, Africa or the Pacific Islands.

4. Include the title, artist and description of what you feel was the most controversial,  unusual or most interesting
work of art you saw. Discuss why you think it is controversial or unusual.

5. You must actually visit the museum as the basis for this assignment; internet browsing is
    not acceptable
. You may want to use a pocket folder for this project. You should take a
notebook with you to jot down important ideas and facts (names of artists, titles and
dates and observations about the art you see) in order to write an adequate  paper.

Locations: You MUST attend one or more of the following museums. Other museums are not acceptable.
